Christopher Richards : Transient Transfers of Persistent Memory
February 7 - April 4, 2025
The Non-Abjective World
opening reception: Friday, February 4th from 5:00-9:00p.m.
Other hours by appointment
One always starts the New Year off with a resolution. We make a decision about ourselves or our outlook, and we strive to be a better version of ourselves than we were the year prior. But even with our best of intentions, outside forces influence a different outcome on our innermost thoughts about ourselves.
From the Artist about his new series of electrostatic prints:
As a society at large, we obsess over perfect skin and perfect physique, perfect health. We go out of our way for the newest beauty regiment with ointments, creams, and serums. We try the new exercise fad, or plastic surgeries. We are sold supplements promising personal health and well-being.
We obsess over and compare parts of our anatomy to others. Often either proud or ashamed, our fixations can cause mental and emotional detriment.
Ever changing regardless of our attempts to control them, bodies are unique from one another and are meant to be. They are beautiful and grotesque. Flawless and flawed.
These works reflect the love for the Land. My memories are brighter and they convey a sense of the love and hope I had for my city shine through within these pieces; a ghostly image of the past becomes alive again.
See this series of work - and much more - starting this February at Maria Neil Art Project.

About the Artist:
ChristopherRichards
Christopher L. Richards is a multi-discipline artist from Cleveland, Ohio, and owner/operator of Context Fine Art located at West 78th Street Studios. He holds a MA in Art History from Kent State University and a BA in Art and Design from LaGrange College. Richards' work focuses on connecting threads of artistic developments from the late 19th century to today. By examining how artistic style and subject tie together the present and the past, Richards gives insight through art on how topics such as feminism, perception, and competing ideologies are still being played out in contemporary society. Further research into psychological theories of visual perception has led Richards to examine the work of Ed Mieczkowski and other prominent regional Op artists.
Specializing in regional art, Richards has used his 10+ years of curatorial experience presenting stunning exhibitions, written groundbreaking essays in catalogues for numerous artists both past and present, and a regular contributor to the CAN Journal. Richards has worked in both the nonprofit and for-profit sectors, including ARTneo: The Museum of Northeast Ohio Art, Rachel Davis Fine Arts, and WOLFS Gallery.
